Host Guidelines

Respect for Privacy
  • Students should have their own room and privacy.
  • Always inform students before entering their room, even for tasks like opening windows.
Room Essentials
  • Provide a comfortable bed, wardrobe, study desk, chair, and adequate lighting.
  • No bunk beds or sofa beds.
No Personal Belongings
  • Do not store personal items in the student's room, i.e., use half of the wardrobe for your own personal items.
Heating and Cooling
  • Provide heaters or fans as needed and remind students to turn them off when not in use.
  • Offer additional blankets in winter.
Room Sharing
  • Do not ask students to share their room unless specifically requested.
Common Areas
  • Students should have access to the bathroom, kitchen, laundry, backyard, and living area.
Pets
  • Keep pets out of the student's bedroom and food preparation areas.
  • Ensure you clean pet waste immediately.
Smokers
  • If there is any smoker in the house, smoking must be done outside to maintain a smoke-free environment.
Standard Homestay (incl. VIP)
  • Daily Meals: Provide breakfast and dinner daily, and lunch on weekends. Offer snacks after school. Students should not cook their own meals, except for instant noodles.
  • Breakfast: Self-serve items like toast, cereals, milk, fruits, and yoghurt. Join them for breakfast on their first morning.
  • Lunch: Light lunch on weekends (sandwiches, fruit).
  • Dinner: Serve a variety of fresh, healthy meals including carbs, protein, vegetables, and fruits. Dinner time: 6-7.30pm.
  • Minor students may require additional lunch daily (which has been included in the package). Please check with your case manager.
Self-Catered Homestay
  • Allow access to kitchen facilities and utensils. Students cover their own food expenses. Discuss cooking times to avoid kitchen traffic.
  • Providing house keys is mandatory.
Essentials
  • Provide bed linen, towels, and toilet paper.
  • Any cleaning products and equipment if required.
  • Hairdryer is optional.
Hot Water
  • Ensure enough hot water for two showers a day (7-10 minutes each).
Laundry
  • Offer laundry facilities once or twice a week and supply detergent.
  • Instruct students to handwash undergarments in the laundry and hang them outside.
Cleaning Supplies
  • Show students where to find the vacuum cleaner and cleaning products.
  • Internet access is compulsory in the homestay as students will need it for their studies and stay connected.
  • If student selects the internet option in their homestay package, you ‘may’ charge $10 per week (please refer to the student profile that we send you upon accepting a homestay placement or check with the case manager to confirm if you are allowed to charge the additional internet fee).
For Students Under 18
  • Each institution has a different curfew (please refer to the homestay handbook).
  • Please report to us if your student breaks the curfew.
If it is passed the curfew and you have contacted your student
  • No need to call our after-hours number but do inform us the next day of the student's arrival time. Repeated violations may be reported to the school.
If it is passed the curfew and your student is uncontactable
  • Contact Global experience after-hours number +61 430 008 448 and report the situation.
  • If missing for more than 24 hours, report to the police.
Important
  • Leaving Home: Students need written approval from the school to leave home, including visits with family. Approval is usually only during school holidays and must be requested 14 working days in advance.
  • Holidays: Confirm holiday plans with Global experience, especially if not previously notified.
For Students Over 18
  • There is no specific curfew for over 18 students, but we expect them to maintain reasonable hours to ensure harmony in the homestay environment.
Maximum Number of Students
  • You can host up to three students at a time, including those from other schools or providers.
  • Each student must have an appropriate room.
  • No sharing unless requested and confirmed by the case manager.
No Mixed Gender Rules
  • Do not mix males and females if any student is under 18.
  • Over 18 female students, especially from Asian regions, may feel uncomfortable living with male students.
No Same Nationalities
  • Some schools have strict rules against placing students of the same nationality together.
  • Inform us if you receive a booking for a student with the same background as your current or new student(s).
